It is our collective focus on employee wellbeing and the health and safety of employees and those who work on, or visit, our sites that is a contributory factor to the success of our organisation. We have a range of programmes focused on this.
Our wellbeing programmes include policies to support employees in balancing their work and personal responsibilities. It is especially important to us that we support wider issues that our employees may face in their daily lives, and our Employee Assistance Programme provides assistance to employees across a range of issues, including mental and financial wellbeing. Assistance comes in the form of face-to-face and telephone counselling. We are progressively introducing mental health awareness and mental health first aider training to support our employees.

We are aware of how vital good mental health is for our employees. Since 2017 over 4,000 UK employees have attended a mental health awareness programme. The one-day event aims to raise awareness of mental health and starts to remove the taboos associated with the topic. Delivered in an engaging and interactive manner, attendees are asked to consider how positive and negative workplace factors can impact their mental wellbeing.
Over 300 of our employees have been trained as mental health first aiders by Mental Health First Aid England. Their role is to act as a first point of contact for anyone experiencing mental health challenges and to point them towards the help and support they need.
During 2019 a UK Mental Health Steering Group was established to initiate a review of the Company’s approach to mental health in order to develop a strategy on this topic further.
The Company was awarded a Princess Royal Training Award for its approach to mental health awareness in 2019.
